Plaid’s Trick Your Pumpkin Contest 09/06 – 10/16/2010

Getting ready for a Halloween celebration already? Consider submitting your crafty decorations in a contest — it may be easier than you think. Plaid’sTrick Your Pumpkin contest runs from September 6 to October 16, 2010. This contest’s Grand Prize is $100 cash and a Plaid gift basket of merchandise worth $50 retail value. The “Submit Your Work” page is simple and straight forward.

This is a great contest for crafters because many people’s Halloween decorations will qualify for entry without even thinking about the contest. Projects need only include at least one of the following: Mod Podge (any formula), Dimensional Magic, FolkArt paint (any formula), Extreme Glitter, Apple Barrel (any formula), Glo Away, Stiffy. Most crafty folks will already have at least two of these supplies on hand. I’m a paper crafter, not a painter, but even I have my own collection of FolkArt and Apple Barrel paints.

Be sure the Plaid product used is obvious in your submitted photo. No flat pumpkin craft projects are accepted, they must be at least 1/8″ thick. Get the full competition details at Plaid’s Trick Your Pumpkin web page. Good luck!

Pill-Pack Sleeves Holiday Gift Cards

Posted by Kira on September 1st, 2010 filed in Crafts, Paper Crafts

A recent challenge for a local craft group was to use something recycled on a card. I’ve never been good at recycling, my tactic has been to reduce and re-use until it disintegrates. There’s usually not much left of whatever I have.

The challenge included having enough supplies for 10 cards. Surely over the years I had saved enough of something not designed for crafts that could be recycled into a card. Off to the craft closet I marched. Not the mint tins–I could put a card in them, but on the card? Too big and bulky for my tastes.

As I stared at the floor-to-ceiling stacks of supplies I noticed something gray at the top of a teetering pile on a shelf. Once upon a time I had a prescription that came in pill packs with nifty little sleeves in which to tuck the pill packs. I only ever used one sleeve, but got a sleeve for each pill pack. They are just the right size to hold gift cards and turned out to be quite stamp-able. I stamped the old pill-pack sleeves and affixed them to cards–

–Yay! Challenge met!
